The SweetSpot Chatter Analyzer^TM provides both measurement and analysis of chatter noise to systematically determine dynamically preferred speed recommendations for eliminating chatter vibration.

Chatter is the unstable result of vibrations, which feed on themselves to make the tool oscillate.  The effects can include shorter tool life and a terrible surface finish.  The performance of a particular tool may vary significantly based on the machine tool employed and other characteristics that contribute to the system dynamics such as the work piece, fixture, and holder.

Experienced operators commonly listen to machining noise and interactively modify the speed to find a “sweet spot” when optimizing a specific application.  The “sweet spots” may exist at both higher and lower speeds where the cut proceeds smoothly.  In many cases, the chatter is quite violent and does not permit extensive and time consuming trial and error searches for the best speeds at which to operate.
